Derrick Loughlin is the owner and lead photographer at DL Photos. His journey to photography wasn't a straight line—it was a collection of experiences that shaped how he sees the world.

The Marine

Fresh out of high school, Derrick joined the Marines. He brought along a trusty digital camera to document the history happening around him. It was there he learned the value of discipline and the importance of preserving a moment in time.

The Nurse

After serving, Derrick attended SNHU for Justice Studies and discovered a passion for photography in a formal class. But his desire to serve the community led him to medicine—first as an EMT, then as a Psychiatric Registered Nurse (a role he still holds part-time!). Nursing taught him patience, empathy, and how to bring calm to stressful situations.

The Photographer

For over five years, Derrick honed his craft as a hobbyist before launching DL Photos. He realized that his unique background—the structure of a soldier and the heart of a nurse—was exactly what the photography industry needed.
